Master Thesis

My master thesis comparing two ways to place and control multiple live viewpoints in VR.

DroneCam, HoverCam and the scrapped OrbitCam

details

My master thesis with the lovely short name “Navigation and Manipulation of Multiple Live Viewpoints for Virtual Reality Head-mounted Displays in a Museum Setting”, written for my MMT master at FH Salzburg. You can read the thesis and find its source on GitHub.

It compares two methods for placing and manipulating multiple live viewpoints in VR: a restricted but automated HoverCam and a free DroneCam. An OrbitCam was briefly tested along the way but replaced by the HoverCam.

study

Every viewpoint camera is linked to a freely placeable View-Panel showing its stream, and the selected camera gets a coloured outline.

In a within-subject study, participants used both systems to find three hidden objects in a distant, life-sized diorama, assessed with quantitative questionnaires. The DroneCam was favoured for exploring the scene, the HoverCam for viewing objects in detail.

Built in Unity with the XR Interaction Toolkit for the Meta Quest 2.
