An Audio Visualiser in Blender
My first animation jam: a generative audio visualiser made entirely in Blender 5.
details
During my MA studies in Hagenberg I joined the local Animation Jam, my first one. I only had a measly 9 hours, so I joined solo to not drag a team down… You can imagine where that led.
Knowing my limits, I made an audio visualiser with generative animations, 100% in Blender. I also wanted to try the newly released Blender 5 and used its new SDF grid nodes for the orbs. The jam’s theme was “Lights on”, which I worked in with a floodlight sound in the intro. The music is Quest by KV from Audio Library.
I ran out of time and only rendered one third of the clip, and it is a bit crude and rushed at times. I learnt a lot about Blender and Geometry Nodes, and most importantly that rendering takes looooong. With more time (or a render farm) it would have worked out nicely. It also showed me why I like game engines so much: they render in realtime!
